Hmm... I think the moral of this story is that it's actually quite feasible for any of the huge mobile phone companies to produce a good smartphone, even if they don't have a history of doing so. I mean, if your company has 60,000 employees, it's not a big deal to get 500 good engineers to work on something like this. #motoroladroid
So, I think we can officially put the "Verizon does not have any good devices" line to bed now, right? The question that remains for me is: Knowing this was at least one of the hot new devices Verizon was rolling out, do they even need the Pre on their network now? #motoroladroid
Since I lust for an IPhone but will not be enslaved of AT&T, I am delighted that I may get the chance at some good hardware to match the FABULOUS service I get from Verizon. (No, I do not work for them.) #motoroladroid
@Curves: I'm in the same boat you are and I'm tired of dreaming abouth the mythical Verizon iphone like a unicorn running through a field under a rainbow. Droid here I come. #motoroladroid
I somehow completely missed that there's no dedicated Call or End button. I've had issues explaining to my less tech-savvy friends how to make a call on my G1. If this would actually require that the dialer app be handy, that's simply inexcusable.
That aside, thank you, thank you, thank you for finally giving some good praise to this design. Frankly, I'm in love with how this phone looks. The Batman comparison cracked me up.
@OMG! Ponies!: Android as a platform is still about 6 months behind the iPhone, as the OMAP/Snapdragon/Tegra phones are just starting to roll and the 2.0 software rushes out the door.
However, as a phone and platform that is inherently designed to destroy the make-believe revenue scheme that U.S. carrier's enjoy, it's a titanic achievement that Android is now center-stage on the nations largest network. It's a great surprise that Verizon figured this out before the market passed them right over.

i draw the line at a 4 by 3 at in-n-out. and i only once attempted (and succeeded) to eat one, and that was after a bee-line to reno after a week at burning man where i pretty much starved the entire time, made all the more agonizing by riding a bike through dust for 8-10+ hours a day, along with dancing for 8 more. #windows7burger
the NASA app? Really? I used it for all of 5 seconds. No high resolution images at all. Worthless. Not even something cool that I could use a wallpaper. #essentialiphoneapps
I'm glad you had to eat that burger. It's good punishment for eating whale (or any other endangered species). You should eat another one, donate some money to greenpeace and hang your head in shame. #windows7burger
That Layar app seems cribbed from an anime that recently came out called "Eden of the East", where the protagonist computer club had invented EXACLTLY that system of user-generated information accessible via cameraphone picture. #essentialiphoneapps
